Career Development

In 2018 several bills were passed in the legislature that require school districts to take a more active role in assisting students as they prepare for their future education and careers.

The State of Michigan now requires that each student identify both career goals, and a plan of action to achieve them. Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, the board of a school district or board of directors of a public school academy shall ensure that the school district's or public school academy's curriculum incorporates grade-appropriate instruction on career development in each grade level in grades K to 12.

On this page we are providing our Superintendents, Principals, Curriculum Directors & School Improvement Leaders the necessary information to follow the guidelines for career development set by the state.

Michigan Career Development Model

The Michigan Career Development Model (MI CDM) is designed to provide all students
(K-12) in the Michigan educational system with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in a career of their choice and lifelong learning. Through embedded classroom lessons and activities, students start to develop an Educational Development Plan (EDP) and a Talent Portfolio.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) recommends districts utilize their school improvement team to implement the strategies within MI Career Development Model.
